Experienced Excavator Operator

We are reviewing LOCAL applicants only. The ideal candidate will be no more than 40-minutes from Denfield, Ontario.

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator. The Operator will be responsible for operating one of three pieces of equipment: a John Deere 300G Excavator, Cat 320E Excavator, or a Cat 420 Backhoe.

McCutcheon Farm Drainage Ltd. specializes in installing systematic sub-surface drainage systems on farms across Middlesex, Oxford, and Perth Counties. Our work occurs year-round, weather permitting.

Our daily goal is to install as many feet of tile as possible. The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a vital role in achieving this goal and ultimately sets the crew’s pace for the entire day by ensuring connection holes are always ready ahead of the Tile Plow.

Duties

The Heavy Equipment Operator will primarily focus on four key tasks, although other miscellaneous tasks may be requested depending on the job site:

1. Digging Connection Holes: Create 10-12’ connection holes, ensuring proper depth and grade for the Tile Plow. Topsoil and subsoil must be separated. A General Labour will assist the Operator to ensure the main pipe isn’t damaged and to install the required tee fitting.

2. Locating Existing Tile: Dig locating holes to find existing tile. A General Labour will assist the Operator in this process.

3. Backfilling Holes: Backfill the connection and locating holes in the field.

4. Daily Maintenance: Perform daily maintenance on the machine, including fueling and checking fluids every morning, and greasing thoroughly every evening.

Skills

– Previous experience digging to grade is required. Experience in separating topsoil from subsoil will be an asset.

– The ideal candidate will be reliable and mature, possess critical thinking skills, and recognize that efficient movements today lead to larger bonuses in the future.

– We are accepting LOCAL applicants only (within 40 minutes of Thorndale, ON).

– Ability to work long days in varying weather conditions. Expect a 50-hour work week when weather permits. Fewer hours may be offered when the ground is too wet or the snow is too deep. In peak seasons, it is not uncommon to work 53-55 hours per week. It is not uncommon to have a short winter layoff.

– Start time is 7:00 AM, Monday to Friday. Some Saturday hours may be available but are not mandatory.

– Transportation to the job site is provided, but candidates must possess a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles.

– Mechanical knowledge and understanding of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting is essential.

– the ability to tow and back up a trailer with a pick up truck will be an asset.

– Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately. The work is very detailed, and the environment is fast-paced. The Operator must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Construction General Labourer

Job Overview
We are looking for an individual who is reliable, mature, has stamina, strong work ethic and can follow instructions accurately for our General Labourer role.

McCutcheon Farm Drainage installs systematic sub-surface drainage systems in farms across Middlesex, Oxford and Perth County. Work happens year-round, weather permitting. (Search “Real Agriculture Talking Tile” videos on YouTube to better understand our industry).

Our daily goal is to install as many feet of tile as possible while ensuring a quality install of a systematic tiling system that will provide benefits for the farmer and environment for many years to come. The General Labourer, in combination with the Heavy Equipment Operator, plays a vital role in achieving this goal and ultimately sets the crew’s pace for the entire day by ensuring connection holes are always ready ahead of the Tile Plow.

The work is Monday – Friday, 7am start, with Saturday hours occasionally offered.

Paying attention to see what repeatable tasks are done on each job site and then stepping up to help perform these tasks will be the key to your success. Accuracy and Efficiency are two skill sets that will help you in this role and future roles within the company.

Duties

The General Labourer will always be working around Heavy Equipment, either helping the Operator find buried tile, installing tees into the tile or taking the tile from the tile plow and connecting it into the installed tees.

There will be four main tools the General Labourer will use: a shovel, a sharp knife, a customized tile knife and a drill.

They will need to be physically able to endure long days in all sorts of weather. On some jobs, large tile needs to be installed and they will need to have the strength and stamina to move and lift it.

They will be asked to help drive pick up trucks, sometimes with a trailer, from shop to jobsite. Knowing how to secure loads will be an asset.

They will be responsible for stocking the equipment with the tees and fittings needed for the day daily. In the winter, they will help shovel out the tracks of the excavator and the tile plow at the end of the day.

There will be other manual tasks assigned depending on the job.

Requirements

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, shoveling and frequent bending.

Ability to work in all sorts of weather for long days.

Possess critical thinking and follow instructions through to the end, being sure to clarify any questions quickly.

Attention to safety, especially around Heavy Equipment.

Prior experience in construction or related fields is a plus but not required

Reliable transportation to the shop in Denfield. The crew leaves the yard at 7am SHARP in company trucks for the jobsite.

A valid drivers license.
